Leif has posted an article to the official Asterisk blog about 1.6.0 and 1.6.1 moving to security only maintenance.
Excerpt from the article:
The Asterisk 1.6.0 and 1.6.1 branches are now nearing their full maintenance mode period and will be shortly switching to security fixes only. Administrators are asked to migrate to the Asterisk 1.6.2 branch for continued bug fixes if they are required. The current set of release candidates for Asterisk 1.6.0 and 1.6.1 are 22.214.171.124-rc1 and 126.96.36.199-rc1 but a second set of release candidates will be created later today as some additional fixes have been merged into the branches.
Developers are asked to stop merging bug fix changes into these branches as the only changes should be security related.
More information about the maintenance periods for branches, please see http://www.asterisk.org/asterisk-versions which contains a table outlining when branches will move between the various maintenance cycles. Currently Asterisk 1.4 and 1.6.2 branches are scheduled to move to security fix only modes in December of 2010, although that date is likely to be extended until Asterisk 1.8 is fully available.
