Company History

In 2001, Matt Riddell was working providing telecommunications solutions for various companies, mostly in New Zealand and Italy under the name SineApps. As the work load increased he brought on extra staff and worked with Ian and Vickie Lamb to bring structure to the company.

Ian Lamb believed that with additional capital and business expertise it would be possible to grow the size of the company significantly.

Ian Lamb took the idea to Ian Thomson who had been providing telecommunications consulting to a company that Ian Lamb had previously worked for. They decided to invest in forming a new company - VentureVoIP.

In May 2007 the new company was launched by the then Prime Minister of New Zealand, Helen Clark.

Initially the new company focussed on getting established in the New Zealand market to provide a solid foundation for worldwide sales. Once this was completed VentureVoIP started to focus on establishing relationships to provide both software and hardware solutions internationally.

In order to grow the company further it was decided that more capital and further high level management experience would be required. VentureVoIP worked with Delloites to both improve our market strategy and gain the additional capital and experience we were looking for.

This culminated in Simon White coming on board as both a director and investor.

VentureVoIP continues to strengthen the international exposure for the full range of products that it has to offer by establishing reseller agreements with companies worldwide.

Board of Directors

Matt Riddell - Managing Director
Matt has 18 years experience in commercial software development and has undertaken numerous projects for a variety of clients including Fiat Corporation - Italy, New Zealand Police and British American Tobacco.

For the past seven years he has focused on specialist telephony software and has developed IP for worldwide distribution. Matt is Editor of the Daily Asterisk News, which features news and information on Asterisk software; the site receives between 20-30,000 visits each day. Matt's knowledge of telephony software and its application has been shared at a number of international telecommunications conferences where he has spoken.

Ian Thomson
Ian has over 40 years experience in the telecommunications sector predominately with Telecom. During his time with the organisation, he held a number of technical and sales roles and received numerous awards culminating in the Telecom Legend Award, of which there are only 6 recipients. Ian has been involved in the introduction and management of many new telecommunication initiatives onto the New Zealand market.

Simon White B.Com, CA
Simon has 30 years experience in Finance, Strategic Development, Governance and Risk Management. He is a member of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants and NZ IOD.

Past senior management roles include: Chief Financial Officer of PSIS Limited and Wrightson Limited, General Manager - Strategic Development for Trust bank NZ Limited and General Manager Business Development for Public Trust.

Dr Mike Riddell PhD
Mike has a varied background as a writer, academic and innovator. He founded CORT, a community housing initiative, which has grown to an enterprise owning more than 50 properties worth several million dollars. He has travelled widely as an international speaker and writer. He was the initiator and convenor of Screen Dunedin, and is a board member of the NZ Writers Guild.

Development Staff

Dr Forbes Williams Speciality: Mathematics and Physiology
Forbes Williams received his medical degree from Otago University in 1984 and went on to teach Physiology at Otago University. While he no longer teaches, he has combined his love of mathematics with his deep understanding of the inner workings of biological systems. He works for VentureVoIP on developing algorithms for our entire product range and on the development of new products. Forbes has also been bringing Matt up to speed on calculus. Because he received his degree in medicine from Otago University, a lot of the algorithms are based on observations of the way in which nature and the human body works. He also specialises in fuzzy logic, DSP and sound engineering.

Chris MacGreggor Speciality: Embedded Hardware
Chris joined VentureVoIP in November of 2008. We had been courting him for some time. Chris is fully self taught and brings a wealth of experience in Asterisk, PHP, Python, C development, customer management and in the implementation of custom software projects. Thus far Chris has been predominantly involved in the support and installation of our call centre products, including SmoothTorque (predictive dialer) and SmoothOperator (call centre management).

Jon Dean Speciality: Routing
Jon has been with VentureVoIP since March 2009 and had come in to maintain the level of customer service that VentureVoIP's customers have come to expect. He brings with him a skillset involving hotel billing management and custom operating system design.

While he is predominantly focussed on providing customer support, he is also developing new products and improving on our currently existing product range.

Jorit Neuhs BBC, MBA Speciality: Project Management
Jorit is the project manager for larger projects at VentureVoIP. He combines a passion for information & communication technology with a broad range of business skills to ensure clients are well positioned to take advantage of opportunities in the fast moving telecommunications market. Jorit’s specialty areas include: Open source software technologies, Project management for software development, Voice over IP, Voice Business (IVR, TTS etc.), Valuation & economic analysis.

Lara Anderson Speciality: Accounts Management
Lara works part time handling the VentureVoIP accounts and looking after customer interactions.
